His Excellency the Minister of Transport, Mr. Mohsen Haidera Al-Amri, met today in the interim capital, Aden, with representatives of the private sector and shipping companies to discuss a number of difficulties and challenges facing their operations.
His Excellency emphasized the Ministry's commitment to addressing the various issues facing the private sector and shipping companies and listening directly to their concerns. This will contribute to enhancing coordination with all relevant parties to overcome these challenges and establish practical mechanisms to address them. He stressed the importance of exerting maximum effort to communicate with public and private entities, supporting partners, and donors to facilitate the smooth operation of maritime traffic and boost commercial activity.
The meeting included representatives from the private sector and shipping companies, as well as agents of shipping companies. Minister Al-Amri affirmed the Ministry's readiness to provide all possible and available facilities to the private sector to mitigate the effects of the exceptional circumstances the country is experiencing, thereby contributing to revitalizing trade and supporting the national economy. He reiterated that the Ministry of Transport will remain a supportive and assisting body for the private sector and will coordinate with the evacuation cell and relevant authorities to address obstacles related to licensing procedures and the types of goods permitted.
For his part, Captain Ali Al-Subhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for Maritime and Port Affairs, explained the nature of the existing relationship between the Ministry, the private sector, and representatives of shipping companies. He emphasized the Ministry's commitment to enhancing coordination with the Coalition leadership to remove obstacles arising from current procedures, particularly those related to licensing and the types of goods allowed.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mohammed Amzarbah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yemen Gulf of Aden Ports Corporation, confirmed the technical and operational readiness of the Port of Aden to receive various international vessels and shipping lines. He noted the ongoing strategic development work to keep pace with the requirements of global maritime activity. Amzrabah announced ongoing understandings and an agreement with a Chinese company aimed at resuming transit operations at the Port of Aden, which have been suspended since 2010. This step is expected to be a significant step in restoring the port's position as a pivotal hub for regional and international trade.
For his part, Abubakr Baabid, Chairman of the Aden Chamber of Commerce and Industry, addressed the most prominent impacts of some current procedures, emphasizing the importance of simplifying procedures and unifying the relevant authorities to facilitate the work of shipping companies and stimulate the private sector.
The meeting was attended by the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Red Sea Ports Corporation for Technical Affairs, Dr. Abdulmalik Al-Sharabi, and for Administrative Affairs, Mohammed Sabr, as well as the Chairman of the Maritime Chamber, Talib Salim, and a number of representatives from shipping companies and other relevant entities.
