Dr. Mohammed Alawi Amzarbah, the Executive Chairman of YGAPC, along with his deputy, Engineer Abdulrab Al-Khulaqi, chaired an expanded periodic meeting of the maritime sector in Aden on Tuesday. The meeting, which included representatives from the Chamber of Shipping and its members from international and local companies, addressed the challenges facing maritime transport in light of the current regional circumstances. The meeting seriously considered the imposition of "war risk" fees by some international shipping companies on shipments that had already been dispatched before the recent events in the Arabian Gulf region. Attendees affirmed the illegality of these fees in order to protect local recipients. In a practical step to enhance the stability of maritime operations, Dr. Amzarbah directed the reactivation of the Commercial Disputes Resolution Committee and its expansion to include the Chamber of Shipping and Commerce. The committee will operate within a specialized technical framework to ensure the examination and resolution of disputes within 72 hours, in coordination with the relevant court. The meeting also resulted in an agreement to unify and regulate the fees of shipping agencies within a specific and clear tariff under the auspices of the Port of Aden, to prevent any financial abuses and ensure the protection of the common interests of all parties involved in the shipping process, including shippers, carriers and recipients, thereby enhancing the role of the port as a safe and organized umbrella for commercial and service activity.
